5 Minutes of Camp

LI: To recount a 5 minute snapshot of one experience you had at camp.

As I took my first step onto the ladder my legs felt like an earthquake was happening, as my hands turned bright red holding onto the pole trying to put my left leg onto the first staple.

As soon as I got to the top of the pole I slowly took my first step onto the beam, and held my rope tightly as the inside of me was screaming my lungs out. As I walked through the high beam my eyes started to get watery, dripping down my face as I took each step just hoping I wouldn't fall.

When I got to the other end I hugged the pole and I walked slowly back to the middle of the beam. While I tried walking, I looked down at my teammates who were below cheering and supporting me while I was doing star jumps.

As I heard "You can come down now..." my body started to shake. Our instructor told me to lean out and sit down as she slowly let us down. When I touched the ground I smiled and clapped with happiness.

Last week we went to camp at Kokako Lodge. My 5 minute snapshot shows my personal voice and I have tried hard to paint a picture with my words to describe what I was doing and how I felt. I found this task fun to do because I wrote about how I felt when I was on the high beams. I also liked working with my group also my partners by sharing our ideas , helping each other and working collaboratively.

  1. Hi Liletina

I was holding the ladder when you climbed and I would never have guessed you were challenged by this activity. You showed confidence throughout and I loved the fact that your team was so supportive. It's amazing what challenges we can overcome when we know others are supporting us. Do you think you would do this challenge again?
